10 Sports & Outdoor Podcasts Recommendations

Our fantastic Berkeley store Marketer, Anne Michael (AKA Panda Anne), is sharing her top 10 Sports & Outdoor Podcasts for those who need to get a taste of travel & outdoors while sheltering in place.

1. Athletes Unfiltered by Strava Stories
Inspiring stories from the Strava community, told by the runners and cyclists who lived them. Pictured below is Ultrarunner Mirna Valerio.

2. For the Wild
For The Wild is an anthology of the Anthropocene; focused on land based protection, co-liberation and intersectional storytelling rooted in a paradigm shift from human supremacy towards deep ecology.

3. Women Sports Film Podcast
The Women Sports Film Podcast features in-depth conversations with filmmakers and athletes working at the intersection of women’s sport, film, and activism. Hosted by Jennifer Matt and edited by Meg Shutzer.

4. Wild Thing
Part of this is tongue-in-cheek—Bigfoot as hipster accessory. But many people take Sasquatch seriously. Very seriously. Primatologists, naturalists, academics—perfectly rational and evidence-driven people who swear to his existence and know he (she? it?) is real. Veteran public radio producer Laura Krantz has met them. Wild Thing is Laura’s journey into the world of Bigfoot, introducing us to the true believers and the I-want-to-believers, while seeking to explore why this creature ignites our imaginations, where that fascination comes from, and why it persists.

5. Ultrarunner Podcast
URP was created in early-2011 for and by people who are passionate about mountain/ultra/trail running. Whether you’re just starting your journey past 26.2 or you’re a dirty veteran, we’ve got fun and info to share.

6. Safety Third
They’ve sadly closed up digital shop, but Safety Third has long been one of my favorite podcasts. They have a frank and approachable tone as they interview a variety of athletes in outdoor sports. I love that they can delve deep into their sports into practical applications of their focus and knowledge and apply their insights to everyday life. For most of the people they interview the subject is not about the sport itself but how it informs their approach to the world.

7. Women Who Travel
Inspiring interviews with women who work in travel or for whom travel is another essential part of their life and being. Produced by Conde Naste Traveler, Women Who Travel provides a professional, warm an insightful look at travel for women in the modern world. I would also recommend joining their Facebook group for fun and inspiring content!

8. Podcasts with Park Rangers
Podcasts with Park Rangers is a show where we explore the importance of our National Parks and Historic sites with those who live and work in them every day. We’ll learn about history, science and the beauty of nature from a unique perspective. If you’re a lover of the National Parks, the outdoors, history, science, or nature — you’re going to love this show!

9. National Parks Podcast
Explore our nation’s treasures — our National Parks — their history, their people, and their stories. From Denali, the tallest mountain peak, to Death Valley’s Badwater Basin, 282 feet below sea level. Nearly 90 million acres of land and the 20,000 rangers and 246,000 volunteers that protect it all at over 400 individual National Park Service units.

10. Projects for Wildlife
In each episode you will hear different views from scientists, business owners, non-profits, photographers, and more. The commonality is that these all of the people are all using their unique skills and voice to start and create projects for wildlife.
